A vacillation between ignoring the pain and indulging in sentimentalism. The numb feeling comes first, accompanied by a strong desire to keep busy. Then at some point the dam breaks - maybe it's a picture, maybe it's a song - and the tears become cathartic. It doesn't happen just once.
